I’m working with a client who, after 25 to 30 years of substance involvement, has finally achieved sobriety and abstinence from crystal meth. This achievement came after a period of being incarcerated and a couple of months in a treatment center.
We often wonder why such events happen in life. When faced with unfortunate circumstances, like being arrested, we might question, “Why me?” However, perhaps these events serve a deeper purpose. For my client, surviving numerous close calls with death and enduring many years of substance misuse required a structured intervention and another opportunity to get clean.
Through a difficult confrontation with her own karma, she has realized that she can overcome her addiction. This journey has been a miraculous resurrection from the ashes of despair to a new, purposeful life. It’s an inspiring experience to witness such transformation.
Life continuously confronts us with challenges, addictions, and habits of the past. My words of encouragement go out to those who are struggling: you can overcome this. Do not be discouraged by setbacks. When you stumble, pick yourself up again. A new possibility, a new future, is yours. Believe in yourself and in the gift of the miraculous.
