Unraveling the Conundrum of Disconnected Humanity

Unraveling the Conundrum of Disconnected Humanity

Some people are truly disconnected from their own humanity, and this creates quite the conundrum. It is perplexing to see someone so detached from empathy and compassion. Why is this the case?

It circles back to that age-old question: is it nature, genetics, or learned behavior? There are instances where people who experience abuse at an early age carry that pain into adulthood, saddened and grieved by it, impacted in ways that elicit sympathy and compassion. Yet, there are others who endure similar difficulties in their upbringing and seem unscathed outwardly, yet something remains hardened within them—a shell of a way of life that may be perceived as antisocial or narcissistic, with a ruthless approach to life. These individuals might step on anyone to reach the top, devoid of compassion or empathy, doing whatever it takes to succeed.

These individuals present a conundrum because one wonders what drove them to such a way of living. How do they live without a heart? Where does that come from?

Even with those who make it extremely challenging to see their humanity, for Logotherapists there remains a chance to perceive the essence of their compassion. Within their nous and souls, there is an opportunity to recognize their intrinsic humanity, despite the numbness they might project.
